As a teacher, I appreciate this post. In fact, for the last 3 years, I have been trying to teach balance and responsibility when it comes to cell phone usage. Sadly, this approach isn’t been working as well as I need it to. Students are truly addicted to this technology, and standing between a student and their addiction leads to more and more disrespect from otherwise respectful students. Being able to access phones while making the smart choice not to takes a lot of willpower from these kids. Nonetheless, it is very important. Responsible technology use almost needs its own class/ training program. One teacher trying to do it during one block just leads to the line constantly being pushed, loss of instructional time, and feelings of disrespect on both sides. If you have practical advice on how to manage this balance I would love some advice.
